Two adjoining palaces were lavishly adapted to create the hotel: the Palais Henkel von Donnersmarck and the Palais Leitenberger, both completed in 1872 during the heyday of Ringstrasse construction. The name Amauris refers to a species of butterfly that shimmers in black and white and is known for its elegant appearance.
